Creative Writing

"Why do we write?  I submit that beyond all rewards...we write because we want to change things.  We write because we have this [conviction that we] can make a difference.  The 'difference' may be a new perception of beauty, a new insight into self-understanding, a new experience of joy, or a decision to join the revolution."  - Robert McAfee Brown

I agree with Mr. Brown.  But I think some of us, at least, write because we have to.   Professor Brown also said, "Storytelling is the most powerful way to put ideas into the world today."

So, my question to you is:  What story which lives inside you will you tell today?

This website is a temporary home for my LSU-S Creative Writing students.  The disadvantage is that I can't create a message board for everyone to use.  So, until I can access the website I need, this will give you the URL's for the articles I recommend you read - I will update it as needed.

If you have something you'd like to share with the class, email it to me at hamerse@bellsouth.net  and I will post it on the Writing exercise page of this website so all can see it.  I will also post comments as they are sent to me.

As you all could tell on the night of the first class, I love to write and love to talk about it!  I do tend to get carried away sometimes, but I'm hoping that you saw the flow of how stories are told.  We'll cover that more over the next couple of weeks.

Glad to have you all - remember to write at least 15 minutes a day!
